All about French Open 2021

French Open, officially known as French Internationaux de France de Tennis, is an international tennis tournament and the second major event of the annual Grand Slam of tennis. French Open is said to be the most physically demanding tennis tournament in the world and it is the only Grand Slam tournament played on clay court. 

French Open Tennis 2021

French Open 2021 was the 125th edition of the French Open and the second Grand Slam event of 2021. The event took place in Roland Garros Stadium in Paris. The game was originally set on May 7 to June 6, 2021, and was later rescheduled to 30 May to 30 June 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tournament included singles, doubles, mixed double play, and also junior and wheelchair tournaments. In the main singles out of 128 players, 16 qualified for men and 16 qualified for men in each draw. The Grand Slam still has 128 Women Qualifiers instead of 96 in line with the other three major tournaments.  

Winners of French Open Tennis 2021

The men’s singles title was won by Novak Djokovic and he became the first male player to win the double career Grand Slam in the Open era. He won this title by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. The women’s singles title was won by 25-year-old Barbora Krejčíková by beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. It is said that it was the first time in the history of the tournament that both the players are from Slavic-speaking countries of Serbia and the Czech Republic.

Novak Djokovic French Open

The Serbian champion Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-7 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4  in 4 hours and 11 minutes and bagged his 19th Slam title and became the first man in 52 years to win all majors twice. Novak Djokovic defeated Nadal 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-2 in four hours and 22 minutes. Rafael Nadal was the first player in tennis history to win 13 titles at the Grand Slam Championship. This was Nadal’s third defeat in 16 years and 108 matches. Novak Djokovic gifted his match-winning racket to his young fan who was seated in the front row.  The boys’ reaction and disbelief set the internet on fire. During the press meet, Novak Djokovic said that the boy encouraged him throughout the match and he was coaching him literally. Press and media praised Djokovic for his kind gesture.
