New Zealand Vaccine Event: Super Saturday Vaxathon
How many people are vaccinated? New Zealand succeeded in vaccinating more people against COVID-19 on Saturday than any other single day. The country has toppled Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s target of 100,000 vaccinations in a single day. Hence, the second target was marked- 150,000, but the country has reached 129,965 doses, making it approximately 2.5 percent of the population. New Zealand’s “Super Saturday ” of Covid vaccinations was an enormous hit, as the country could successfully vaccinate over 2.5percent of the population. The country has vaccinated in greater numbers. Health workers had administered 127,342 Pfizer shots on Saturday, which is higher than any day of the rollouts in countries like the US, Australia, the UK, and Canada.
The director-general of health, Ashley Bloomfield, applauded the successful Super Saturday efforts. Ardern announced the news at 3 pm, during a special telethon, known as the vaxathon. It is a part of the Super Saturday efforts. She urges people to push closer to 150,000 jabs. Musicians, celebrities, and sports stars supported the ‘Vaxathon.’ event that was telecasted on TV and online for eight hours straight. Till afternoon, over 120,000 people receive their shots, surpassing the daily record of 93,000 set in August. The event lasted till the evening.
A throwback to Television fundraising even called ‘telethon’ was popular from the 1970s through the 1990s. Now, it comes as a pandemic event to face the biggest threat -the COvid-19 virus and its variants which is spreading in the largest city of Auckland. Before the Vaxathon, around 72% of New Zealand people have received their vaccination, at least one dose, and 54% of the population were fully vaccinated.
