Everything You Should Know about Lovecraft Country

Lovecraft Country TV Series

Lovecraft Country is HBO’s one-hour series based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff Atticus Black published in 2016. The American drama was developed by Misha Green. The series premiered on August 16, 2020, on HBO. The drama is produced by Bad Robot Productions, Monkeypaw Productions, and Warner Bros.

Lovecraft Country Synopsis

HBO’s Lovecraft Country took place in America in 1954. The story begins with Atticus Turner, a 22-year-old black man who was a fighter in the Korean War. He received a letter from his father Montrose and decided to find his missing father. So he heads toward the town mentioned in Montrose’s letter. His friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) accompany him on the road trip across the 1950s Jim Crow America. The story manifests their struggle to survive and how they overcome the cruelty of terrifying supernatural monsters and racist terrors. It is about lethal challenges Atticus encounters in his quest.

He has gone through much race-based harassment along the way. Atticus’s father and his Uncle manage their own agency to help black people. Magic-wielding white people want to sacrifice Atticus’ life for their ritual as he is a descendent of the owner’s ancestor and a slave woman. One of the Magic-wielding group members helped Atticus, George, Montrose, and Letitia to escape.

Lovecraft Country Press Release

Matt talks about the series in Lovecraft Country Press Release, July 2020,

“To watch the story actually come to life was nothing short of magical.”

And he adds that “I had little direct involvement in the series’ production. If the show is as big a success as I think it’s going to be, that will be due to the hard work of all the other people on the set that night, the crew, the director, and most of the entire showrunner, Misha Green. Credit is also due to executive producers Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams, and to HBO, for taking a chance on the project.”
