According to a Morgan Stanley Research study, flying cars, also called electric air taxis, will be developed in the market during this decade, estimating $1.5 trillion globally by 2040. The driving sector is also influenced by technology. This includes self-driving cars, drones, and high-tech batteries, and advanced manufacturing techniques. Many famous brands and start-ups began to develop flying taxis, including Hyundai, Toyota, Uber, Boeing, and Airbus.

The main purpose of flying taxis is to reduce traffic jams as the taxi can cruise at 180mph at elevations of around 1,000 ft to 2,000 ft, as per NASA. It can reach up to an altitude of up to 5,000 ft—another Urban Air Mobility (UAM). 

To fulfill the demands of the future, drones and flying taxis will be produced more. They require mini-airports, also known as “skyports.” Joby Aviation is a California-based company that is in the lead of making flying taxis that have launched over 1,000 test flights of its eVTOL craft. The firm is expecting to get approval from the US regulator the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). So that it can start commercial operations. Joby’s piloted car has the capacity for four passengers, can travel up to 200 mph, and has a range of over 241km (150 miles.)

Joby Aviation is one of the flying taxi companies that shared a remarkable video of its six-rotor aircraft that completed 150-mile. It is recorded as the longest flight ever performed by an electric aircraft which is equal to a journey between Los Angeles to San Diego or Seattle and Vancouver. The company stated that it will have a full-scale air taxi service by 2024 that includes regional travel. JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby stated about their new invention “We’ve achieved something that many thought impossible with today’s battery technology.” He also said that with this operation, they can create comfortable and emissions-free air travel facilities in places like Houston and Austin, San Francisco and Lake Tahoe, or Los Angeles and San Diego regularly.
