Get to Know Which Vitamin Is Absent in an Egg

Eggs are the healthiest food, providing essential vitamins, proteins, and minerals. They contain 12 out of 13 vitamins, but some are absent. Learn about the missing vitamins in eggs.

Which Nutrients Are Not Found in Eggs?

Eggs are incredibly nutritious and they are even referred to as “nature’s multivitamin.” Eggs are packed with vitamins, minerals, high-quality protein, good fats, and various other nutrients. One large egg contains 6g of protein, 213 mg of cholesterol, 5 grams of fat, and only 70 calories. Nothing can beat the nutritional value of eggs.

One whole egg contains the following nutrients-

Eggs Are Referred to as _______.
  • A. Nature’s Multivitamin
  • B. Nature’s Protein
  • C. Nature’s Gift
  • D. None of the above
  • Iron- Helps to carry oxygen.
  • Vitamin D- Strengthen bone and teeth.
  • Vitamin E- Prevents diseases.
  • Vitamin B12- Keeps the body’s nerves and cells healthy.
  • Vitamin B2- Maintains body energy supply.
  • Vitamin A- helps to maintain healthy skin.
  • Vitamin B5- Maintains a healthy digestive tract.
  • Selenium- Prevent the breakdown of body tissues.
  • Lutein and Zeaxanthin- helps to maintain good vision.
  • Choline- plays a major role in brain development.

Eggs contain all the nutrients that are required by the human body but it lacks one of the essential nutrients. The only vitamin you won’t find in an egg is Vitamin C.

Does Egg Contain Vitamin C?

An egg contains every vitamin except Vitamin C. Your body needs Vitamin C for your growth, to maintain your teeth, to help heal wounds and to produce collagen. A hen’s egg does not contain Vitamin C and if your diet lacks Vitamin C you may be more likely to develop cancer, high blood pressure, and heart disease, and your skin might become rough, dry, and damaged. It also causes osteoarthritis or age-related macular degeneration. Lack of Vitamin C or poor Vitamin C intake can also cause anemia-related issues such as lack of energy and tiredness.

Why Is There No Vitamin C in Eggs?

Eggs contain a wide array of essential nutrients such as Vitamin A, B2, B12, D, E but why is there no Vitamin C in eggs? Just like how humans need many nutrients to give birth to a baby, hens require specific nutrients such as calcium and Vitamin D3 to produce eggs with strong shells. Chickens produce eggs that contain all the nutrients required to turn a single cell into a baby chicken. Eggs lack Vitamin C because the chick cannot produce it from the food it eats.
