What is Hispanic Culture?

Hispanic culture is a set of customs and traditions, beliefs, and arts like music, literature, dress, architecture, food, or others that are followed by peoples in Hispanic regions. Based on the country or territory it may differ from one place to another. Hispanic is the term derived from the spanish word hispano which refers to the people and their culture related to the country Spain. The hispanic people follow the Spanish language.

What Are the Famous Hispanic Traditions?

  • Fiesta Quinceañera (or Fiesta Rosa)

It is a well-known Latin American catholic festival for youths approaching their 15th birthday. This festival commemorates the transition of girls from childhood to womanhood. The 15-year-old girl dresses up in a pink gown and dances with her father or lover on this special day.

  • Las Piñatas

It is an ornament that is filled with candies. In the 13th century, piñata was a ball with 7 cones, which represented the 7 deadly sins (pride, greed, sloth, gluttony, lust, envy and wrath). But today, piñatas are associated with fun celebrations. The goal is to hit the piñata with a stick (while you are blindfolded) and make all the candies fall.

  • Día de Los Muertos

This tradition is described as “a Mexican holiday dating back hundreds of years.” This celebration will take place during the summer. Later, it was moved to autumn to coincide with the Catholic celebrations of All Saints’ Eve, All Saints’ Day, and All Souls’ Day. 

  • Las Mañanitas

It is a famous traditional birthday song in Mexico and Latin America. Usually, people will sing this song early in the morning before everyone wakes up, or just before eating the birthday cake. In Colombia, Las mañanitas is sung during Fiesta Quinceañera. You can find lots of different versions of this song.
