Hamlet

Hamlet is also one of the most underrated plays. It is underrated and underappreciated for the extraordinary work of experimental art it is. It’s one of the most famous plays ever written about the most famous fictional character ever created. It talks about life, death, murder, love, sex, pirates and more.

The Comedy of Errors

The Comedy of Errors – the inspiration for the musical ‘The Boys from Syracuse’ – involves the mishaps and misunderstandings which ensue when two sets of identical twins, separated at birth, find themselves in the city of Ephesus at the same time. This was another early comedy – thought to have been written by Shakespeare in around 1594

Coriolanus

This one is about the Roman leader who conquered the city of Corioles. Coriolanus is a historical tragedy based upon a real Roman general, and tells of an incredible fall from victory. In the list of less-known Shakespeare works, this is one of them.

The Taming of the Shrew

The play Taming of the Shrew reveals the attitudes towards women in Tudor England, and despite the character of Katherina being very overtly wild at the beginning of the play, you cannot help but feel sorry for her as she wilts to a submissive vassal at the end.

Timon of Athens 

This play features a generous man who gives away his money to hangers-on, and ends up becoming a misanthrope, exiling himself from Athenian society to go and live in a cave. Timon of Athens is one of the Underrated plays of Shakespeare. 

Love’s Labour’s Lost

Love’s Labour’s Lost is quite an early Shakespeare comedy, and involves the king of Navarre and three male companions agreeing to take an oath to swear off the company of women for three years.
