According to The EIU’s (The Economist Intelligence Unit) Safe Cities Index Copenhagen ranked on the top in the world’s Top safest cities list. The EIU analyzed sixty cities based on 76 indicators of security to know about global urban safety. It announced the annual list based on pandemic preparedness and COVID-19 morality this year. EIU also measured digital life, environmental factors, infrastructure, personal security along with health safety.

Denmark’s capital Copenhagen became the safest city in the world, as it ranked top at the top of the index.The Safe Cities Index discovered a high connection between safe cities and control of corruption. Hence, Denmark becomes one of the world’s least corrupt countries. EIU measures sustainability, including incentives and renewable energy, waste management, air quality, and urban forest cover. The city has been doing its best to cope with pandemic limitations. City life has been completely improved as of September 2021. It also established a massive COVID-19 testing program which is free for everyone, including tourists.

Toronto

Canada’s biggest city ranked second in the index when it comes to overall safety including environmental and infrastructure security. The city also launched several community-specific vaccination programs to make the city safer. Toronto is considered an open-minded city where people can feel safe because of its different ethnicities, sexual orientations, and religions.

Singapore

Singapore is another safest city in the world because of its fast actions in the early days of the pandemic, quick contact tracking, and maintaining digital monitoring. The city also boasts one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, with an 80% vaccination rate. The city also introduced the TrackTogether token or mobile app for SafeEntry check-ins. Shopping malls and tourist places have limited entrances.

Sydney is Australia’s largest city and made its place in the index. Australia was one of the top countries that completely closed its borders during the pandemic. It also implemented strict lockdown to reduce the rising cases. 70% of the population in New South Wales are fully vaccinated. The city also ranked on top in digital security including cybersecurity protections, privacy policy, and also implemented an overall smart city plan.

Tokyo

Japan’s capital Tokyo ranked fifth in the index with its excellent health security index that measures factors like pandemic preparedness, healthcare, life expectancy, COVID-19 mortality, and mental health. Nearly 60% of the country’s population are fully vaccinated. The country also encourages vaccine passports to use for medical facilities and big events. It also offers discounts and coupons to vaccine passport holders. The country has better infrastructure security, including transport safety measures, transportation and pedestrian friendliness.
