US Open Final Highlights

Like every sports event, US Open 2021 tennis also had some unforgettable moments. 

  • With his steadfast performance, Dannii Medvedev achieved the men’s singles title. Novak Djokovic missed earning a Grand Slam. Djokovic hugged Medvedev after the game. Medvedev defeated Djokovic in 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York. Dannii Medvedev won the men’s singles title at the 2021 US Open.
  • Novak Djokovic did not become the 3rd champion after Don Budge (1938) and Rod Laver (1962, 1969) achieved all four majors in the same year.
  • Emma Raducanu bagged her first Grand Slam and won the championship trophy after defeating Canadian player Leylah Annie Fernandez on Day 13 of the 2021 US Open.
  • Naomi Osaka and Dominic Thiem became women’s and men’s singles defending champions. Osaka lost the 3rd round to Leylah Fernandez. Theim quit the tournament due to a wrist injury.
  • Dylan Alcott and Diede de Groot won the Golden Slam in wheelchair quad singles and wheelchair women’s singles.
  • Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid earned the Grand Slam by winning all four majors in men’s doubles.
  • US Open 2021 tennis was the first big tournament since the 1997 Australian Open that did not feature Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Venus Williams, or Serena Williams in the singles draw.
  • The US Open permitted the return of the audience after the 2020 tournament, which took place behind closed doors because of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York.
  • How many players are in the US Open? The US Open tournament is divided into men’s and women’s singles and doubles draw. 64 players participated and single players remained in the 128-person format in every category.
