Michael Fred Phelps is an American swimmer and the greatest Olympian of all time. Phelps has the record of winning the most medals in Olympic history, 28, not only that he is also the only Olympian with the most gold medals. He participated in his first Olympics at the age of 15, the youngest man to participate in the US team for the Olympics in 68 years. Phelps also holds the record for the first American to earn a spot on five Olympic teams.

Michael Phelps was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 30, 1985. Born to Fred and Debbie, Phelps is the youngest of three children. His father is also an athlete and his mother was a middle-school principal. Phelps’ parents divorced in 1994, he and his sisters lived with his mother. He was married to Nichole Johnson, former Miss California in 2010 and he has three sons. Phelps established The Michael Phelps Foundation (MPF)  to encourage the sport of swimming and promote healthy lifestyles.

Phelps won his first Olympic medal with a world record time of 4.08.26 at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games. From then he dominated the next four Olympics and was celebrated as the best athlete.  In Athens 2006 Olympics he won six gold medals and two bronze medals, missed to beat the world record of Mark Spitz’s, who won seven gold medals at Munich in 1972. Phelps won eight gold medals in the Beijing 2008 Olympics. He bagged most of the medals in every Olympic event he entered and broke the world record in seven of them. In the London 2012 Summer Olympics, he won four golds and 2 silvers. Phelps gave a historic comeback in Rio Olympics 2016 and bagged five gold medals and one silver medal. The Olympian with the most medals retired at the age of 28. Michael Phelps’ record is unlikely to be surpassed soon.
