Daylight Savings Time Origins

DST came into effect during the first World War. It was shortly halted during the second world war but resumed soon after. The general concept behind the practice was to gain an extra hour of daylight from spring to fall. This would encourage the productivity of several institutions and would enable the efficient use of energy.

Benjamin Franklin suggested this idea as a joke during a satirical essay in 1784 after a bug collector inspired him. He believed that this would help the country in saving money. He enforced a lockdown of sorts that prevented people from traveling post daylight for non-emergencies, fired cannons to alert people about the beginning of the day, and more.

Does Time Go Faster in Daylight Savings

It is known that the days are longer during the summer than in the winter, while the nights are longer in the winter than in summer. There won’t be any changes in the speed at which we go through the day. One of the major disadvantages of DST is the health issues that arise due to changes in routines.

Daylight Savings Worldwide

Countries near the equator do not follow a daylight savings routine because they do not experience a huge difference in climate changes. Apart from America, Canada follows a similar pattern while the rest of the world has neglected the differences due to minuscule advantages reaped.
