Americans own more guns than anybody else on the planet, even adjusted for population. Arms ownership in the United States is constitutionally protected by the U.S. Bill of Rights. They are widely used in the United States for self-defense, hunting, and other recreational uses, such as target shooting.
According to a survey from research centers, Americans have high exposure to guns. Many citizens personally own guns and some don’t. But at least two-thirds of the people lived in a household with a gun at some point in their lives.
And roughly seven in ten including 55 percent of those who have never personally owned a gun, say they have fired a gun at a point. And today, three in ten U.S. adults say they own a gun. An additional 36 percent say that while they don’t own a gun now, they might get one in the future. Only a few adults say that they might not even own a gun.
Firearms are involved in the deaths of nearly 40,000 people annually in the U.S., 60% of which are suicides.
The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives all citizens the right to keep arms. According to 2003, 2008 research- Among gun owners, 58 percent own pistols, 63 percent own shotguns and 59 percent own rifles. Few small arms categories are muzzleloaders, shotguns, rifles, revolvers, and pistols.
