The Beach Boys is known as one of the most successful bands of all time. The legendary band called The Beach Boys was founded in 1961 in Southern California, and they became American icons at the beginning of the 1960s. This band sold over 100 million records across the world, which helped achieve more than 33 Platinum and Gold record awards from the Recording Industry Association.

The Beach Boys formed when Californian Brian Wilson decided to fulfill his interest in music.

The original band members were Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson, Carl Wilson, and close friend Al Jardine, their cousin Mike Love. Later, Jardine was replaced by David Marks as he moved to the school. 

Bruce Johnson joined the band by replacing Brian Wilson.

Most of their songs were about Southern California, cars, the beach, girls, and surfing.

The First Song 

Surfin’ was the Beach Boys’ first single released in 1962.

Mike Love Wrote Lyrics to the Band

In 1961, Mike, the leading vocalist, wrote the lyrics to the Band’s debut hit “Surfin’.” The band’s other hit singles were “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “I Get Around,” “California Girls,” “Barbara Ann,” “Help Me Rhonda,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” and more.

Beach Boys Received Many Honors

In 1966, the band was honored as the world’s top musical group in England’s Melody Maker poll. It was recognized as the band of the year by Rolling Stone magazine in 1975. The Beach Boys made it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in January 1988.

Brian Wilson Has Never Been On Stage since 1996

He hadn’t been on stage with the band since 1996. The band members were reunited for their 50th-anniversary tour in April 2012, performing at Pitterburg’s Benedum Center in May that year.

The Band Didn’t Come Up with Their Name

The original name of the band was The Pendletones. They come up with names based on their style of shirts they used to wear. Later, it was changed when a record company executive found it not suitable. Hence the name changed to the Beach Boys.

Brain Wilson is a remarkably talented singer and musician, but he is deaf in one ear. Hence he can’t listen to the stereo.

Beach Boys Reunion

The surviving band members -Brain Wilson, Al Jardine, Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, and David Marks were reunited in 2012 to record a new album. They decided to launch the new album on their 50th-anniversary tour.
