The Gateway Arch was designed in 1947 by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen. The construction of Gateway Arch began on February 12, 1963, and was completed on October 28, 1965, at an overall cost of $13 million. On June 10, 1967, this monument was opened to the Public and located on the west bank of the Mississippi River. It is a 630-foot-tall monument considered the tallest human-made monument in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. It has become a popular tourist destination and has become an internationally recognized symbol of St.Louis.
