  • Rally: After the serve, players hit the ball back and forth, aiming to keep it within the boundaries of the court. The ball can bounce once on each side before being returned.
  • Scoring system: Tennis uses a unique scoring system. Points are counted as 15, 30, 40, and game. The first player to win four points wins the game, but they must win by a margin of two points.
  • Deuce and advantage: Deuce occurs when the score reaches 40-40, requiring two consecutive points for victory, with the first point being an advantage.
  • Change of ends: After each odd-numbered game, players switch sides of the court to ensure fairness due to potential differences in wind and court conditions.
  • Let: A “let” occurs when a ball hits the net during a serve without penalty.
  • Out of bounds: Outside court boundaries, ball out, opposing player earns a point.
  • Faults: A serve that doesn’t land in the proper service box, hits the net, or is served out of turn results in a fault. Two consecutive faults result in the loss of a point.
  • Doubles play: In doubles, two players team up on each side of the net. The serving team takes turns serving, and the receiving team chooses which side to receive from.
