According to new research by scientists at the University of Westminster, watching horror movies is equivalent to a small chocolate bar.

Did you know? Watching a 90-minute long scary film may help burn around 150 calories which is equal to a 30-minute walk or a quick jog.

In this research, scientists examined the oxygen intake, heart rate, and carbon dioxide output of participants before, in between, and after watching a scary movie. Then they were allowed to watch a horror movie.

Scientists noticed that the number of calories burned increased while the participants were watching movies such as The Jaws, Paranormal Activity, and Shining.

The average calorie-burning per film was 113 calories but there are other top horror movies available that help burn more calories. The iconic 1980s movies including The Shining, Jaws, and The Exorcist may help slash the most calories.

Richard Mackenzie who was the author of the study stated that “Each of the 10 films tested set pulses racing, sparking an increase in the heart rate of the case studies.”

How many calories do you burn watching TV? A 125-pound person may burn 23 calories, a 155-pound person can burn 28 calories, and a 185-pound person can burn 33 calories.
