South-eastern (Norfolk) Virginia is the home plus headquarters to the world’s largest naval base naval station along with the largest concentration of the U.S. navy forces. It is situated in the Sewells Point peninsula of Norfolk city and covers almost 3,400 acres and here is where the Atlantic Fleet lives. The naval base was established in the year 1917.

The area where the biggest naval base is located was the site of the original 1907 Jamestown Exposition and it is now home to 80,000 active duty personnel, 112,000 family members, and 30,000 civilians and supports 75 ships along its piers and 134 aircraft alongside 14 piers and 11 aircraft hangars. There are more than 3,000 ships coming and leaving the naval base on a yearly basis. Including the fact that Naval Station Norfolk military base has the highest number of military troops in the U.S. As it is the largest naval base in the world. It is responsible for the operations held in the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean.

The Naval Base will be open to the public and provides a 45-minute tour year-round to witness the magnificent aircraft carriers, destroyers, amphibious assault ships, battleships, and also allows you to learn about the history of Naval Station Norfolk. These tours will be conducted by naval personnel.
