Did you know? Many people around the world think that the bone is the strongest part of the human body, but the fact tells a different story. Being a human we lose our bones over time. Have you ever gave a thought about which is the longest & strongest bone in the human body? Your skeletal system is the foundation of your human body. Learn some unique trivia about the strongest human bone in the human body through our blog.

Anatomy of the human thigh bone – Femur

The femur is the only thigh bone in the human body that acts as the site of origin and attachment of many muscles and ligaments which can be divided into three parts – proximal, shaft, and distal.

Proximal

Which Bone Is Strongest in the Human Body?
  • A. The Femur Bone
  • B. The Jaw Bone
  • C. Tibia
  • D. All the Above

The proximal aspect of the femur articulates with the acetabulum of the pelvis to form the hip joint and it consists of the head, neck, and the two bony processes known as greater and lesser trochanters.

Shaft

The shaft of the femur descends in the slight medial direction which brings the knees closer to the body center gravity.

Distal

The distal end of the femur is characterized by the presence of the medial and lateral condyles that articulate with the tibia and patella to form the knee joint.

Femur – The longest strongest bone in the body

The skeletal system in our human body is made up of different types of bones, ligaments, and tendons. Each part of the human body holds its unique function, from protecting our internal organs to giving a perfect structure. We all tend to take our bones for granted as we think it is the strongest bone in the human body. Yes, it is, but not every bone in our body is strong enough to handle an accident or injury.

The femur is the longest and strongest hip bone connected to the thigh bone. The femur is also known as the thigh bone which reaches from the hip to the knee. The upper part of the femur consists of the femoral head, femoral neck, and trochanters. The femoral head that is the head of the femur joins the pelvis to the hip joint.

There are four types of bones in the human body (long bones, short bones, flat bones, and irregular bones) and the femur is the longest bone, which is wide with spongy bones at the end and has a cavity filled with bone marrow in the shaft. The adult femur bone in males is about 19 inches long and 1 inch in diameter, whereas in females it is about 17 to 18 inches long and 1 inch in diameter.
