Cable News Network History

Cable News Network (CNN) is the world’s first 24-hrs news channel that debuted on June 1, 1980. This news channel is located in Atlanta, Georgia and it is owned by CNN worldwide, a subsidiary of WarnerMedia. American media proprietor Ted Turner is the founder of the first 24-hour cable news. During the launch in 1980, the founder shared his motto for the first 24-hour news network. He said that the main motto was to bring brotherhood, kindness, friendship, and the peace of the people in his nation and world. 

History of CNN Network- First 24 Hour News Channel 

Ted Turner purchased a financially distressed UHF television station in Atlanta in 1970. Within a few years, he made it a successful and profitable news channel in the United States. In 1975, he invented a superstition and it was one of the first companies to use a new communication satellite to broadcast the channel to a nationwide audience through cable television. It was also renamed as Turner Broadcasting System. He later started the first 24-hour news network. During that time the TV news industry was dominated by three major networks ABC, CBS, and NBC in which the news was broadcasted only for 30 minutes at night. Initially, CNN was available in less than two million U.S households but today it is seen in more than 370 million households and hotels internationally. CNN International is the most widely distributed news channel worldwide.

During its early years, CNN was running at a loss and was nicknamed Chicken Noodle Network. Ted Turner didn’t get fed up; instead, he invested in the building and eliminated one of his channel competitors ABC by purchasing their Satellite News Channel. Later CNN, known for covering live events around the world, the channel also covered live events of the Persian Gulf War from the al-Rashid Hotel in Baghdad which gained popularity and more audience.
