Who Invented the Putt-Putt?

Don Clayton invented the Putt-Putt in the 1950s. It was founded to emphasize the player’s skill and improvement. The Putt-Putt Corporation was established in North Carolina and became a famous golf club corporation. The term Putt-Putt golf is utilized mutually with mini-golf, even though you can see the slightest difference between them.

The origin of mini golf is inspired by golf which is a game enjoyed by people of all ages. It has artificial structures that include concrete, carpet, and other obstacles like ramps, windmills, tunnels, and metal walls.

How did mini golf make an impression on the world? It is called “mini golf,” a cheap date” or “putt putt.” Since the 19th century, the miniaturized sport became popular. The oldest golf course was found in Scotland where the origin of mini golf can be traced. The Ladies Putting Club St. Andrews was constructed in 1867 for women golf players and known as the world’s first putting-only course in history.

Interesting Historical Facts of Putt Putt

After WW2, the United States was ready to have fun again. The Putt-Putt® Corporation was formed in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The corporation wanted to take miniature golf seriously. In 1930s mini golf became expensive so they began to use cheaper alternatives such as obstacles like barrels, tires, and old drain pipes.

Don Clayton, the founder of ‘Putt Putt Golf Courses decided to design short holes so that a hole-in-one can be scored on each hole with a perfect putt. He began advertising putt putt as a serious sport and organized tournaments around the world providing huge prize money. Everyone was attracted to this unbelievable announcement.

Putt Putt golf courses built a more well-aligned arrangement of holes with restricted obstacles like small holes, pipes, and blockers whereas, mini golf courses made with complex themes like random obstacles were placed and have uneven borders. Miniature golf courses made with realistic obstacles such as waterfalls, windmills or mimic the real sport of golf.

The mini golf sport has been related to several names such as miniature golf, crazy golf, adventure golf, extreme golf, and putt-putt.

Mini-golf courses began to use artificial greens in the early 20th century. A good artificial grass can create a good golf course because it changes the experience of the game drastically.

Modern-day miniature golf courses commonly use water features, bridges, amazing landscapes, and the natural obstacles created with sands and rocks.
