Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch painter born on March 30, 1853, in the Netherlands. Van Gogh is one of the greatest post-impressionists and is also known for his oil paintings. Van Gogh became famous posthumously for his eye-catching paintings. He was an influential figure in Western art history. He created more than 2100 artworks in a decade. Out of that, 860 were oil paintings, most of which were painted in the last two years of his life. 

Van Gogh is considered the greatest artist after Rembrandt van Rijin. The firm brushwork, striking colors, and contoured forms of his works influenced many artists.

Though his paintings are unique and admirable, they were not famous during his life. It is only after his death that Van Gogh’s works got recognition. The Dutch painter was mentally unstable for years and died on July 29, 1890.
