The first New York Fashion Week was launched by Eleanor Lambert, press director of the New York Dress Institute, in 1943.

  • New York City was not originally a Place for Fashion Week

The first Fashion Week (formerly known as “Press Week”) was held in Paris, not in New York. Due to World War II raging throughout Europe, Americans couldn’t participate in most shows.
