As per many scientists, Indo-Pacific Sailfish is the fastest fish in the ocean. It is considered as a fast leaper and swims swiftly. Many speed trails indicate that sailfish clock in at 68 mph while jumping. The fish has a sail-like fin on the backside and has the silver-blue body. It is called pelagic which means it often swims offshore instead of shallow waters. Sailfish does cover long distances. Approximately, its weight is 220 pounds and the length is 10 feet.
Sailfish is one of the billfishes that include marlins, round scale spearfish and swordfish. Billfish mostly prefer to dwell in the warm water of the Pacific and Atlantic. You can see them in groups, feeding on smaller fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans. It attacks one prey at a time. It infects with its small teeth which are situated on its bills. Sailfish mostly do group hunting to catch the prey.
Sailfish are most commonly located in warm and tropical waters in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. Sailfish cannot be caught from the U.S waters except for some incidental fishing in Pacific and gillnet fisheries. Even in the Atlantic Ocean, sailfish catch is prohibited.
