World’s Most Heavily Militarized Borders:

South Korea/North Korea

The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is a 160-mile boundary between North Korea and South Korea. This area is always heavily fortified by barbed wire, troops and active landmines. The two nations have been warring for more than 60 years and still have not recognized each other’s sovereign status. The DMZ is like a buffer zone to keep the military forces of the countries at a safe distance from each other.

India/Pakistan

India – Pakistan border is one of the most dangerous borders in the world. It is just 1,800 miles of heavily and extremely guarded land- and it is the only border that can be seen from space due to high voltage floodlights. Both India and Pakistan have fought 3 wars to date.

US/Mexico

The USA and Mexico border is 1,950 miles long and is always the center of attention. The border between these two countries is the main place where many drug cartels operate, so the crime rate around the area is always high.

Later, the Mexican government decided to take down the drug cartels but this has caused a great loss of lives and worsened the situation. It is said to be one of the most dangerous borders in the world.    

Syria/Israel

These two countries are legendary, they have been at war for many years, the border is still a live battle zone with armed vehicles and bullets flying from each side. The violence has never decreased but increased since the Syrian Civil War began.   

Iran/Iraq

Iran is one of the countries which possesses nuclear weapons. The Iran and Iraq borders are heavily guarded borders running from the Shatt-al-Arab River to the Turkish border. In some parts of Iran and Iraq, it’s legal to travel but if you are found loitering in the border area without a proper document, you will be imprisoned.
