Simone Biles was born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio to parents Shanon Biles and Kevin Clemons. She is the third child in a family of four. Her siblings and she grew up in the north Houston suburb of Spring, Texas. Simone discovered gymnastics when she was six years old on a school field trip to Bannon’s Gymnastix. She began imitating gymnasts’ moves, which drew the attention of a gym instructor, who later wrote to Simone’s parents urging them to enroll her in gymnastics classes.
