Simone Biles was born on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio to parents Shanon Biles and Kevin Clemons. She is the third child in a family of four. Her siblings and she grew up in the north Houston suburb of Spring, Texas. Simone discovered gymnastics when she was six years old on a school field trip to Bannon’s Gymnastix. She began imitating gymnasts’ moves, which drew the attention of a gym instructor, who later wrote to Simone’s parents urging them to enroll her in gymnastics classes. Simone began working with coach Aimee Boorman at the age of eight and maintained this relationship through the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Simone Biles is considered to be the greatest gymnast of all time. The 24-year-old has six national all-around titles and a record 25 world championship medals, 19 of which are gold, and when she competes in the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, she will undoubtedly add to her ever-growing collection.

Biles became the first female US gymnast to win four gold medals in a single Olympic Game in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. She is also the first woman to win five World all-around titles, three World balance beam titles, and five World floor exercise titles. She hopes to add to her haul at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo this summer.

Simone Biles withdrew from the women’s team gymnastics final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Tuesday, citing mental health concerns in order to protect her body and mind. Biles broke down in tears after the final, which was won by the Russia Olympic Committee (ROC). 

Simone Biles, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, will not compete in the individual all-around gymnastics final at the Summer Olympics on Thursday because she is focusing on her mental health. She has yet to decide whether or not she will compete in the event finals next week.
