Justin Trudeau has been the Prime Minister of Canada since 2015. He has maintained a gender-balanced cabinet. He has also not fallen short when it comes to ethnic diversity. The Canadian Cabinet consists of 38 ministers inclusive of the Prime Minister, Trudeau himself. Out of the 38, 19 of them are women. 

Trudeau’s New Cabinet

While old faces have secured integral roles in the Cabinet, four women out of the 19 had either not contested or didn’t secure enough votes in the latest reelections. This has compelled Trudeau to introduce new women into his cabinet.

Chrystia Freeland

Freeland remains as the Deputy Prime Minister and  Finance Minister of Canada. 

Melanie Joly

Joly got promoted to Minister of Foreign Affairs from her previous title of Minister of Economic Development, Tourism, Official Languages, and La Francophonie, and Canadian Heritage roles.

Anita Anand

The second woman National Defense Minister previously served as the minister of Public Services and Procurement.

Carolyn Bennett

Bennett holds office as the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and also functions as the Associate Health Minister. She was appointed as the Minister of State for Public Health, Indigenous and Northern Affairs, and Crown-Indigenous Relations. 

Marie-Claude Bibeau

The 2015 International Development Minister is appointed as the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food in 2021. She is the first woman to be appointed as the minister of agriculture in Canada

Diane Lebouthillier

Lebouthillier continues to perform as the National Revenue Minister in 2021.

Carla Qualtrough

Qualtrough is appointed as the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development, and Disability Inclusion in the 2021 cabinet. She was the Minister of Accessibility, Minister of Public Services and Procurement, and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities. 

Patty Hajdu

The  Minister of Health, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, and Minister of Status of Women is currently the Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario.

Karina Gould

She was the Minister of International Development and Minister of Democratic Institutions, at present she is appointed as the Families, Children, and Social Development Minister. She also became the first minister to give birth while holding office. 

Mary Ng

The 2015 Small Business, Export Promotion, and International Trade Minister is now appointed as the International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business, and Economic Development Minister. 

Filomena Tassi

She was elected as the Minister of Labour and Minister of Seniors last time and functions as the Minister of Public Services and Procurement at present.

Joyce Murray

She is the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans, and the Canadian Coast Guard. Murray previously served as the Minister of Digital Government and as the President of the Treasury Board. 

Mona Fortier

Fortier has been appointed as the Minister of the Treasury Board. She served as the Minister of Middle-Class Prosperity and Associate Minister of Finance in the previous period. 

Ginette Petitpas Taylor

Taylor is the Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and Minister of Official Languages in 2021 from her previous role of Health Minister.

Kamal Khera

She is the youngest woman to be elected as a Cabinet Minister and holds office as the Minister of Seniors.
